Snowshoeing and a 100 Mile Race

I hadn't been doing much of anything. But then I got an early Christmas present of a pair of snowshoes. In the week and a half since I've had them, I have gone up in the mountains four times. And I'm going again tomorrow. I love my snowshoes. Here are a few photos of my snowshoeing expeditions.

I love my snowshoes!

so, now that I've been more active, I have more motivation. I started looking at the Wasatch 100 mile endurance run. I've been thinking of applying. It is in September and I would need to register by next week. I would have enough time to work up to 100 miles. Anyway, should I sign up for a 100 mile race? or is that too crazy. It would take a lot of work, but I think it would be worth it.

Hi Anton,

Snowshoes are a great way to get in a good workout outside in the winter. I really enjoy snowshoeing on trails I normally hike because the familiar becomes new again with snow. As far as running the Wasatch 100, it's a great goal. Have you run any marathons yet? I have heard of some people that run ultras that haven't run marathons but generally I think there is a progression up to an ultra. My husband has a goal of an ultra and is planning on running a marathon in May, 50k in July and 50 miler in November to prepare for an ultra in 2011. Everyone is different though and only you know what you're capable of. Good Luck!

I have run several marathons and last year I ran a 50 miler. I have been building up to it. I could never imagine running 100 miles without first having run at least several marathons.

That's great! Good luck in your future running endeavors. We volunteered last year at an aid station for the Leadville 100 and I think my husband is going to pace a runner this year but I really admire the grit of ultra runners. I think marathons are as far as I will go.
